Who We Are
Project S.A.R.A.H provides help for Jewish victims of Domestic Violence and Sexual Abuse and their families throughout the state of New Jersey.
Project S.A.R.A.H. (Stop Abusive Relationships At Home) is a program that works to overcome cultural, legal and religious barriers confronting victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse. While we proudly served the statewide New Jersey Orthodox Jewish community for the past 18 years, no one is turned away due to race, gender or financial difficulties. We are funded by the N.J. Department of Law & Public Safety, U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Violence Against Women, N.J. Department of Children and Families, Jewish Family Service & Children’s Center of Clifton-Passaic and private donations and foundations.
Project S.A.R.A.H. operates within an environment that is sensitive to victims cultural and religious needs, serving as a bridge between victims of abuse in the Orthodox community and the support systems and resources available to them. We work closely with rabbis and rebbetzins, kallah teachers and mikvah attendants, camp directors and school administrators, parents and the general public to keep our community safe for everyone.
Our highly trained clinical staff provides therapeutic interventions that enable victims to process the often unspeakable trauma they experienced and restore them toward fully functional and productive lives. We connect victims and survivors with a broad array of services including pro bono legal consultations, evaluations, individual and group therapy, psychiatric services, as well as emotional, financial and vocational support.
We offer an extensive array of abuse prevention programs for camps, schools and synagogues. Through our award-winning Aleinu Safety Kid program we have taught vital safety skills to thousands of Jewish day school children, parents and teachers. To meet the growing needs of our constituents, we now offer in-home “fireside chats” for parents to discuss personal safety for their children.
A quote from a client: “I stayed in an abusive relationship for 29 years. I never knew there was anyone out there who would believe me, anyone who could understand what I was going through-until I found Project S.A.R.A.H”
